Terms of Service — Aetas (DRAFT v2)
This document is a draft under review. Its terms may change.
Last Updated: [Date] — DRAFT, not yet effective
Version history:
- v2.2 (2026-08-06): published as a draft, by owner decision on issue #85. The internal do-not-publish banner this document used to open with was replaced by the user-facing draft-under-review notice above; no other text changed and no placeholder was filled. Attorney review remains outstanding — changes come after it.
- v2.1 (2026-08-05): every substantive claim re-verified directly against the codebase (issue #85's owner decision, the same pass that produced the Privacy Policy's v2.1). Two corrections: Section 7's claim that data deletion was "actively being improved" is now stale — it shipped as a complete, verified erasure — and Section 11's claim that policy changes are announced "in-app or by email" is removed, because this app has no email-sending capability and no in-app broadcast mechanism. See the Verification Notes section at the end of this document.
- v2 (2026-07-25): added Section 13 (planned feedback/support submissions — content license and sensitive-data guidance) and Section 14 (planned third-party AI-agent access, specification stage). Verified directly against the codebase (grep for analytics SDKs, a
feedbackcollection, and MCP/agent-token infrastructure) that none of these were implemented as of that version — both new sections described planned, not live, functionality. Everything else below was carried forward from v1 unchanged; see v1 for the original text. - v1: original draft.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account or using Aetas (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service. These Terms should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which describes what data we collect and how we use it, including the planned features described in Sections 13-15 of that policy.
2. Description of the Service
Aetas is a personal productivity, time-management, and self-reflection application. It helps you:
- Track tasks, goals, and schedules
- Capture quick notes and ideas
- Keep a personal journal
- Optionally track mood, energy, stress, sleep, and emotional-reflection data, and view basic statistical patterns across that self-reported data
Aetas is a personal organization and self-reflection tool. It is not a medical device, mental-health treatment service, therapy substitute, or clinical diagnostic tool. See Section 5 for important limits on the "insight" and pattern-detection features.
We are also planning, but have not yet built, (a) product-usage analytics instrumentation, (b) an in-app feedback/support submission channel, and (c) an optional way for your own AI agent to connect to your account via a revocable token. See Sections 13-14 below and Privacy Policy Sections 13-15 for what these will involve if and when they ship.
3. Accounts
- You must sign in using Google Sign-In (via Firebase Authentication). You are responsible for keeping your Google account secure — we do not have access to or store your Google password.
- You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. (If a lower age with parental consent is intended, this needs attorney input and, likely, additional protections such as COPPA compliance mechanisms — not addressed in this draft.)
- One account per person. You're responsible for all activity that happens under your account.
- Notify us promptly at [Contact Email] if you believe your account has been compromised.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to access another user's data or bypass access controls
- Upload malicious code, attempt to disrupt the Service, or interfere with its normal operation
- Scrape, reverse-engineer, or systematically extract data from the Service beyond your own account's data
- Use the Service to store or transmit content that is illegal, infringing, or that you don't have the right to share
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section (see Section 8).
5. No Medical, Clinical, or Professional Advice — Important
Aetas's mood, energy, stress, sleep, and emotional-tracking features, and any "insight," "pattern," or "recommendation" output derived from them, are basic statistical summaries of the data you enter yourself. They are:
- Not medical advice, mental-health treatment, therapy, or a diagnostic tool
- Not reviewed or generated by a licensed clinician
- Not a substitute for professional medical, psychological, or psychiatric care
If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact a licensed professional or emergency services in your area. Aetas is a self-reflection and productivity aid, not a healthcare product, and should not be relied on as one.
Any correlations, trends, or "insights" the app surfaces (e.g., "your mood tends to be lower on days you sleep less") are simple statistical observations about your own self-reported data. They may be inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading, and should not be used as the basis for medical or safety-critical decisions.
6. Your Content
- You retain ownership of the tasks, journal entries, mood/emotional data, and other content you create in Aetas ("Your Content").
- You grant us a limited license to store, process, and display Your Content solely to operate the Service for you (e.g., syncing your data, generating your own pattern-detection insights).
- We do not claim ownership of Your Content and do not use it to train external models or share it with third parties for their own purposes.
7. Service Availability and Changes
- The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times.
- We may add, change, or remove features over time, including the pattern-detection/insight features described above, as the product evolves.
- Data deletion is complete and verified — see Privacy Policy Section 7.2. Data export currently covers tasks and goals only (Section 7.3 there); a full personal-data export is not yet built.
- We are also planning the analytics, feedback/support, and AI-agent-access features described in Sections 13-14 below; none are live as of this version of these Terms.
8. Termination
- By you: you may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time via in-app settings. See the Privacy Policy for the current, honest state of what account deletion does and does not remove.
- By us: we may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, or if required by law, with notice where reasonably possible.
- Sections that by their nature should survive termination (e.g., limitation of liability, no-warranty disclaimers) will continue to apply.
9. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
*(This section is intentionally proportionate to an early-stage, individual-consumer app — not enterprise boilerplate. An attorney should confirm this is adequate for your actual risk profile before publication.)*
- The Service is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
- We do not warrant that the Service will be error-free, secure against all possible threats, or that any pattern-detection/insight feature will be accurate.
- To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including loss of data.
- Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law (e.g., for gross negligence or willful misconduct, where such limitations are not permitted).
10. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of [Jurisdiction], without regard to conflict-of-law principles. [Jurisdiction and dispute-resolution mechanism (courts vs. arbitration) require attorney input based on where the company is incorporated/operates and where its users are located.]
11. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time as the Service evolves. This application currently sends no email, push notification, or SMS carrying general announcements, and has no in-app broadcast mechanism, so no notice of a change can currently be delivered through the product itself. Until one exists, changes are only visible in this document's own "Last Updated" date and version history. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

13. Planned: Feedback & Support Submissions (Not Yet Implemented) — new in v2
We are planning, but have not yet built, an in-app "Feedback & Support" form for submitting bug reports, feature requests, points of confusion, or praise. If and when this ships:
- Anything you submit through that form ("Feedback Content") will be treated similarly to Your Content under Section 6 above — we will use it to operate and improve the Service (triaging, prioritizing, and responding to your report), and we will not sell it or use it for advertising.
- A report you flag as security-sensitive (e.g., involving account security or data exposure) will be marked internally so it can be routed to a faster response path — see Privacy Policy Section 14 for detail.
- You should not paste highly sensitive content (e.g., full journal/mood entry text) into a Feedback Content submission — the planned form's guidance will ask for a redacted screenshot or a record reference instead. This is a request, not a technical restriction, since the form itself does not currently exist to enforce it.
This section describes planned functionality only. As of this version of these Terms, no such form or Feedback Content collection exists in the app.
14. Planned: Third-Party AI Agent Access (Specification Stage) — new in v2
We are evaluating a design (not yet implemented) that would let you connect your own AI agent to your Aetas account using a per-user, individually revocable API token you generate from within the app, so the agent can read or act on your data (e.g., "log this capture") only in direct response to something you asked it to do in that session — not on its own initiative. If and when this is built:
- Any token you create is your responsibility, similar to your account credentials generally (Section 3) — you are responsible for the actions taken under a token you have issued and not revoked.
- You will be able to grant or withhold access on a per-feature basis (e.g., read-only schedule access without granting write access to tasks) and revoke a token immediately at any time.
- Every action taken via a token will be visibly marked in the app as agent-initiated (distinct from an action you took directly), and logged, so you can review what an agent connection has actually done.
- Actions available to an agent will never include account deletion or bulk data export/deletion — those remain exclusively human, in-app actions.
This capability does not exist in the app today. This section is included so the terms governing it are visible before it ships, not added retroactively; it will be revised to reflect the actual, shipped mechanics once implementation begins and is approved.
Verification Notes
Statements in Sections 7 and 11 about what this app currently does were checked against the source as part of issue #85's verification pass (2026-08-05), the same pass documented in full in the Privacy Policy:
- Section 7 (deletion, export) — verified in
lib/firestore/account-deletion.ts(deleteAccount,deleteUserData,verifyUserDataDeleted) andapp/export/page.tsx(handleExport). See the Privacy Policy's Verification Notes, Section 7.2 and 7.3 entries, for the full mapping. - Section 11 (change notices) — no email-sending dependency exists in
package.jsonorfunctions/package.json, and no general-announcement route or component exists underapp/orcomponents/. Checked by absence, the same way as the identical claim in the Privacy Policy.
Known Gaps
See the Privacy Policy's Known Gaps section — the app-behavior gaps that policy names (no consent mechanism, no analytics opt-out UI, unreachable withdrawn-collection data, no full data export, no change-notification mechanism, no attorney review) apply equally here, since these Terms and that Policy describe the same application.
This is a first-iteration draft pending review by a licensed attorney. Do not treat any statement in this document as a final legal commitment until that review is complete.
